Historical Note: In the
summer of 1998 the Cottage Grove Historical Society
learned that the owner of this barn planned to tear
it down, as it was in such poor condition. Several
local citizens formed a committee to save and
restore this barn. Contributions were collected and
work was started in 1990 and was completed in about
2 weeks. The structure was nominated to be placed
on the National Record of Historical Places through
the efforts of graduate student Donna Hartmans. In
1991 the nomination was approved and as of that
date, this was the only barn in the nation to be on
the NRHP.
