Built: 1848 and 20 feet tall. The brick shell
is the only one of eight lighthouses along the Cape
Fear River Authorized by Congress in 1848 that is
still standing. It is the smallest of the two
lights that were built on Prices Creek. During the
civil war confederates used the light as a signal
station aiding blockade runners in navigating the
river. The lights were destroyed by the
confederates as they lost control of the Cape Fear
River.
